There is an interesting background to the Cambodia casinos that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den betting is prohibited. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 1700, and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of most border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked bateau gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machines and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel complex that highlights many conveniences aside from the casino, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
