There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gaming is against the law. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally tiny location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect destination, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, funding sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of many borders.

The original Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of 150 slot machines and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the normal tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel compound that highlights numerous luxuries aside from the casino, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and 88 table games.
