There is an interesting history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling hall wagering is not legal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a prime spot, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, funding sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are allegedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling hall, contains 150 slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including eighty seven baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that features many luxuries in addition to the casino, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
